Holmes

HOLMESKelly Holmes is a retired British middle-distance runner and one of the most successful athletes in British athletics. She was born on 19 April 1970 in Pembury and grew up in Hildenborough. Before becoming a full-time athlete, she served in the British Army as a physical training instructor while training for athletics.

Holmes specialised in the 800 metres and 1500 metres events and became famous for her achievements at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, where she won two gold medals in both events.
Earlier in her career, she also won a silver medal in the 800 metres at the 2000 Summer Olympics.

Throughout her career she earned several medals at other international competitions, including the Commonwealth Games and the European Championships.

In 2005 she was awarded a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire for her services to sport.
After retiring, she created the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust to help young people improve their lives through sport.
