ASDAN Courses

The Wellbeing Hub at John Evelyn Campus is a registered ASDAN Short Course provider.
ASDAN Short Courses are designed to develop skills and help young learners discover their passion and purpose as they move forward into further education, work or training.
Some of the ways these courses improve wellbeing of our students include:

  • Pride in achievement and commitment to learning.
  • Developing student self-confidence, self-awareness and understanding of how to be a successful learner
  • Gaining employability skills so that learners are well prepared for the next stage of their education, employment, self-employment or training
  • Understanding how to keep themselves safe from risks such as abuse, sexual exploitation and extremism, including when using the internet and social media
  • Knowledge of how to keep themselves healthy, both emotionally and physically, including through exercising and healthy eating
  • Personal development, so that learners are well prepared to respect others and contribute to wider society.

Beliefs and Values Short Course Overview

This course helps learners aged 13 and over develop the personal and social skills they need to play an active role in our modern, multicultural society. It provides a flexible, accessible alternative to GCSE religious education, enabling learners to:

  • respect different beliefs and values, and how they contribute to a multicultural society  
  • gain an awareness of the impact that humans have on the environment and how to protect our planet  
  • become a responsible citizen and understand the laws needed for a fair and just society  
  • appreciate the value of peace in society and understand the impact of conflict  
  • understand how different religions express their beliefs through worship and actions  
  • explore the concept of inspiration from religious and non-religious perspectives 

Enterprise Short Course Overview

The Enterprise Short Course accredits up to 60 hours of enterprise activity and is endorsed by the Institute of Enterprise and Entrepreneurs.  This is a comprehensive program designed to cultivate entrepreneurial skills and business acumen among students. This course comprises six modules, each tailored to guide students through various facets of enterprise and equip them with practical skills for real-world application.

Expressive Arts Short Course Overview

This course offers exciting and rewarding activities to develop skills and knowledge through all forms of expressive arts. This programme helps learners develop practical arts skills, as well as personal, social and work-related skills.
The Expressive Arts Short Course will enable learners to: 

  • learn and demonstrate techniques in different forms of expressive arts (eg visual arts, performing arts, music, crafts, writing) 
  • develop an awareness of how creative expression and enjoyment of the arts can have a positive impact on mental health and wellbeing 
  • develop their own creative voice and produce their own original work 
  • gain an understanding of the importance of arts and creativity in society and industry 

FoodWise Short Course Overview

This course offers exciting and rewarding activities to develop skills and knowledge through cooking and food preparation. It enables learners to: 

  • learn what is meant by healthy eating and wellbeing 
  • learn and demonstrate the skills and techniques needed to cook 
  • gain an understanding of the importance of sustainability and cooking on a budget 
  • learn about aspects of the food industry and how it operates 

PSHE Short Course Overview

The PSHE Short Course has been updated to help centres meet the requirements of the new statutory guidance for sex, relationships and health education in England, which came into effect in September 2020. ASDAN has produced a mapping document to show how the challenges and resources can support centres in meeting the new requirements. 

RoadWise Short Course Overview

Developed in partnership with Cheshire and Warrington Connexions, the ASDAN RoadWise Short Course can accredit up 60 hours of activities relating to the consequences of dangerous driving, dangers on the road, the law, transport and the environment, vehicle maintenance and vulnerable road users. The course provides a focus for work with young people around issues of road use. 

Sport & Fitness Short Course Overview

This course is designed to be flexible and adaptable, catering to the diverse interests and abilities of students. Through a mix of theoretical learning and practical application, students gain a comprehensive understanding of sports and fitness, equipping them with valuable knowledge and skills for both personal development and potential career pathways in the sports industry. 

Volunteering Short Course Overview

The Volunteering Short Course provides a convenient way to capture, record and recognise the work of volunteers. There are challenges to help plan and review volunteering activity along with logs to keep track of the work carried out.
