Thought Of The Week

Thought of the Week (TOTW) is a structured whole-school programme designed to support students’ personal development, wellbeing, and safety. Delivered every Monday through assemblies at both the Broadoak and John Evelyn campuses, the programme focuses on key PSHE themes that educate, safeguard, and empower students.

Topics are carefully chosen to be relevant, age-appropriate, and engaging, responding to both current issues and the needs of the school community. These include areas such as coping with exam stress, safeguarding, radicalisation, vaping, mental health awareness, healthy relationships, and British values. To further embed learning, tutor time activities throughout the week are aligned with the Thought of the Week, allowing students to explore themes in more depth, ask questions, and reflect on how these issues relate to their own lives.

Thought of the Week Programme 2026

Alongside this programme, Word of the Week (WOTW) plays an important role in reinforcing key messages while developing students’ vocabulary and communication skills. Each week, a word linked directly to the Thought of the Week theme is introduced and explained during assembly. Staff then encourage students to use the word appropriately in their spoken and written work across the curriculum where relevant. This approach helps students build confidence with language, deepen their understanding of the weekly theme, and make meaningful connections between wellbeing, learning, and everyday classroom practice.
