Construction

City and Guilds Basic Constuction Skills Level 1

The Construction course covers different areas of the construction industry. It is aimed at giving you a chance to try different trades and decide which area you would like to specialise in when you have completed the qualification.

You will complete units in the Construction Industry, Health & Safety, Brickwork, Joinery, Plastering, Painting & Decorating, Technical Drawing, Plumbing and other aspects of construction.
This is a practical and classroom based qualification. Some of your time will be spent completing practical assignments such as building, plastering and tiling and some of your time will be in the classroom building a portfolio of written work. You will be assessed both on your practical work and the evidence in your portfolio.

This course gives you valuable experience if you want to go on to a career within the construction industry. It is generic so does not prepare you for a particular trade – it gives you a taste of several.
You can progress to study Level 3 in Construction if you wish to take the managerial route or apply for an apprenticeship in the specific trade in which you have developed an interest. University courses include Architecture, Surveying and Engineering.

Career opportunities are varied and can include being a self employed tradesperson or a quantity surveyor.
