BTEC First in Travel and Tourism Level 2

This qualification is the first step in a career in the Travel and Tourism Industry.  It will provide you with knowledge and understanding of the sector and will equip you with the skills to enable you to be successful in a range of customer focused environments.

You will study theory and practical work-related units such as Travel and Tourism Business Environments, Holiday Representatives and the Cruise Industry. The course will involve educational visits to relevant travel and tourism organisations, including museums and exhibitions and you will also have the opportunity to access advice and guidance from visiting professionals.
In order to gain the qualification you will be expected to complete a portfolio of coursework including two externally assessed exams and eight other units that are assessed internally.  These are based on practical “hands on” tasks taught in the context of real jobs and careers in the Travel and Tourism sector. You will also be finding out about how the Travel and Tourism industry functions and the various roles within it.

This course gives students the opportunity to progress to other vocational qualifications, such as the BTEC Level 3 in Travel and Tourism, or on to AS or A level, and a pathway into university.  University degrees include Travel and Tourism Management, International Hotel Management and Hospitality and Food studies. Employment in the Travel and Tourism sector is varied and includes events management, air cabin crew and customer service.
