GCSE English

As a student at Abbey Manor College, it is our expectation that you will achieve GCSE 9-5 (previously A-C) grades in both English and Maths. This will be made possible through a combination of small group teaching, individualised learning and targeted support. These GCSEs combined with a BTEC Level 2 qualification in your vocational subject will enable you to study at Level 3 in Further Education and progress to university.

GCSE English

The English qualification you will study is AQA GCSE English 4700. It is comprised of three units and you will have to complete all three units to achieve a GCSE grade. In Unit 1 you will be working on reading and writing non-fiction and media texts. In Unit 2 you will be developing your speaking and listening and in Unit 3 you will focus on understanding and producing creative texts.

Unit 1 is assessed by a paper exam and Units 2 and 3 are assessed by way of controlled assessment tasks. For Unit 3 you will study a novel, poetry and a play by Shakespeare.
