BTEC First in Creative Digital Media Production Level 2

This course will allow you to develop your knowledge of the Media industry. You will learn through practical assignments which will demonstrate your skills. Subjects include Digital Photography, Understanding the Media Industries, Animation, Web Design, Graphic Design and Interactive Media.

This course will provide you with the opportunity to develop your interest, confidence and skills in Creative Digital Media Production. Using primary and secondary research as a starting point, you will learn and develop a broad range of practical techniques and skills to produce creative work essentially in the areas of print and video production.

Throughout the course you will be required to work on design projects in response to vocational briefs. As a consequence you will build up an extensive and varied portfolio of work that will include examples of research for creative digital media production, communication techniques and pre- and post production documentation.

Accreditation for the Award will be based on successful internal assessment of individual units of work and one exam.
Accreditation for the Certificate will be based on successful internal assessment of individual units of work and two exams.

Digital ArtsYou will be taught in the Digital Arts room, which is furnished with industry standard IMACs and the latest software. We also visit a variety of exhibitions and studios in order to experience the Digital Arts industry.

You will receive individual tutorial support to keep you on track and if needed and additional learning support is always available.

You do not need prior experience but an interest in a broad range of media is essential. You will be asked to both discuss and write about parts of the Media industry. You need to enjoy working with others, have creative ideas and an open mind to learning different techniques, and skills.

The course will involve educational visits to relevant media organisations, museums and exhibitions and you will also receive advice and guidance from visiting professionals. You will also be required to work collaboratively on extra-curricular projects with other groups from the College.

Progression routes include BTEC Level 3 in Creative Digital Media Production, AS Media Studies and Film Studies,BTEC Level 3 Art and Design, Interactive Media and Games Design or Fashion and Visual Merchandising. This can then lead to university courses in Media, Graphic Design, Creative Arts and careers in the Media and Design Industry. BTEC Level 3 courses can lead on to different courses at university such as Media Production, Television and Film Studies, Marketing and Public Relations and Broadcast Journalism.
