Art and Design

This course will provide you with the opportunity to develop your interest, confidence and skills in art and design. Using visual research as a starting point, you will learn and develop a broad range of practical techniques and skills to produce creative work in the areas of 2D and 3D design including Graphic Design and Photography.

You will work on design projects that involve exploring the properties and potential of materials for design using a range of 2D & 3D techniques and technologies.

During the year you will build up a portfolio of work that will include examples of drawing, multimedia, contextual studies, graphic design and photography. Both traditional and digital media will be explored.

You will produce a portfolio of work that will be internally assessed alongside an external practical examination set by BTEC.

The course includes educational visits to galleries, museums and exhibitions and you will also exhibit your work at the end of the year in a public gallery.

This course would enable you to progress on to BTEC Level 3 and 4 in Art & Design, Media or Fashion in FE College, potentially leading on to courses at university such as: Design, Illustration, Fine Art, Photography and Fashion.

Investigating Contextual References in Art & Design

In this unit you will investigate historical and contemporary art, craft and design practice and explore art, craft and design examples relevant to your own work.
